Where is Batasia Loop?

Batasia Loop is part of the famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway route. It is a circular loop situated at Cart Hill road. Just as the toy train crosses Ghoom, there is a sharp descent of 140ft. The loop was constructed by the British in the year 1919 to counter this sharp descent. A true engineering marvel, Batasia Loop is a popular tourist destination in North Bengal.  Around 5 kilometers from Darjeeling town, you can reach Batasia Loop by boarding the toy train from Darjeeling station. The toy train ride is famous for the scenic beauty that it provides - lush greenery surrounded by majestic snow-covered hills. You can also take a car or taxi from Darjeeling town which takes around 15 to 20 minutes to reach Batasia Loop along National Highway 55.

Means an airy space, Batasia Loop is well-known for its peaceful and serene ambiance. It houses a garden that is 50000 square feet covered with grass and beautified with seasonal and perennial flowers and shrubs. If you are looking for a weekend gateway to unwind yourself, then Batasia Loop is a perfect place to rejuvenate in the lap of nature surrounded by snow-clad mountains. You can either sit in the majestic garden and enjoy the view in peace or take a stroll around the track.

A war memorial was built in the year of 1995 at the center of Batasia Loop to honor the Gorkha soldiers who laid down their lives for the independence of our country. A cenotaph built next to a 3-meter high statue of a Gorkha soldier has the roll of honor of the soldiers along with the dates.
